Cash boost will help centre survive

A COMMUNITY centre has welcomed a £3,000 cash injection from Beaconsfield Town Council.

The Curzon Centre in Maxwell Road, Beaconsfield, is used as a venue for a wide range of community events including youth club meetings, classes and operatic society shows.

The centre has struggled financially in recent years in the face of steadily decreasing grants from Buckinghamshire County Council.

In a letter to the town council, president of the centre John Page asked for a grant of £5,000 "to help keep the centre's doors open."

Treasurer George Foden welcomed the news and said: "This year we plan to renovate the kitchens.

"All contributions are gratefully received, whether it is 10p, £10 or £1,000. We want to make the centre more attractive for the youth of the town and for any organisations that may wish to use it. The Curzon Centre is a very useful community facility and we wish to take a bigger hand in getting it used more."

The centre held its annual general meeting on Monday evening with presentations from the president, Earl Howe, and Mr Page.
