NEW affordable houses are to be built on Green Belt land in Chalfont St Giles to cope with the demand for housing.

Planning permission for 28 new properties to be built on Green Belt land was granted by Chiltern District Council because of a proven need for new housing in the village.

A legal agreement has ensured all the properties will remain affordable, with local people having first priority.

The properties, which are a mixture of flats and houses, will be built in Bowstridge Lane.

They are to built by the Rural Housing Trust, which is the country's leading provider of affordable housing.

The development is the eighth the Rural Housing Trust has planned for Buckinghamshire, with building work on a site at Lane End due to start shortly.

The Trust also hope to submit plans for similar schemes in Ellesborough and Amersham soon.

With a possible recession looming are any houses affordable?

It’s a shame that more green belt land will be lost for more unnecessary housing.

this is the bloody last straw! what is the point in living here anymore when land that is meant to be protected for our well being is just built on anyway. This should be stopped right NOW im disgusted with all involved, this country will have no green land in 10 years time.

"The policy for green belt land is arguably the most widely recognised planning tool known by the general public, however the actual purpose of the green belt is widely misinterpreted. The quality of the landscape is not relevant to the inclusion of land within a Green Belt or to its continued protection. Rather than being a tool to protect countryside it is a regional strategic planning tool to prevent urban sprawl by keeping land permanently open." So err, that scheme's working really well then..

Why does Ivor insist on saying that new housing is "unneccesary"?

Tell that to the 2,000 people on the Wycombe Council housing waiting list.

Tell that to those people who are homeless.

Why doesn't he go back to Planet that he lives on!
