A NEW non-emergency police telephone number is being trialled in Waltham Forest.
From this week residents wishing to report low-level crime or anti-social behaviour, such as noise nuisance, fly-tipping or graffiti will be able to do so by dialling 101.
Jennette Arnold, who represents Waltham Forest on the London Assembly, as well as sitting on the Metropolitan Police Authority, is encouraging residents to use the service.
She said, "While the police rightly focus on more serious crime, anti-social behaviour like noise and nuisance often make people's lives a misery.
"This number gives residents the option to report such issues without feeling that they are distracting the police from keeping the borough safe. I look forward to seeing the positive results of the trial."
Calls have a flat rate of 10p.
The scheme, which is also being piloted in Barking and Dagenham, will run until September.
