A BUS was stolen and left in a quiet residential street in High Wycombe.

The Arriva bus was left in Kendalls Close, off Hatter's Lane overnight with a gouge taken out of its side.

It had been taken from the company's High Wycombe depot and keys were still in it when it was found.

A car was damaged by the bus before the thieves fled.

It belonged to Norman Hickman, 52, of Hatter's Lane.

Mr Hickman, who is disabled, noticed the parked Arriva bus in Kendalls Close, near his damaged car.

He said: "It's heartbreaking. We came out this morning to take my son and his friend to school. My son said look dad there's a bus over there.'

"I saw my car first. It's going to cost me. I've got an excess on it because it's a mobility car. But you've got to get on with life. It's very frustrating."

Brian Drury, commercial director for Arriva, said: "A single decker vehicle was stolen this morning. It has since been recovered and forensics are looking at it to try and find finger prints and other evidence to find out who stole it."

He believed it was taken at around 6am this morning.

I don't drive so do not know much about car insurance, but can't Mr Hickman make the claim through Arriva's vehicle insurance? After all that is what insurance is for isn't it?

unfortunately probably not, not clued up on commercial policies but if you r hit by a stolen car, normaly you have to claim on your own insurance.

if it did that to the bus, id hate to see the state of the car.

by the sounds of it, arriva hadnt realised the bus had been taken?

It sounds like he has a large excess, so the cost of getting the car repaired may be cheaper than his excess, making it not worth claiming.

if they find the joyriders they could be made to pay for damages

I wonder if the joyriders stopped to take on any passengers!? Having seen the driving 'skills' of many of the Arriva drivers, most people wouldn't notice the difference.

Of course they hadn't realised. When are the busses EVER where they are supposed to be at any given time?

The keys were still in the bus when found, surely Arriva are responsible, if the bus had been secured it wouldn't have been driven.
Arriva should replace the car as a matter of urgency, recouping their losses from the offenders if caught.

back in my hayday i stole a motor veichicle and had the keys the insurance company will not pay out as the offender had the kays.....So it will unfortunatly be down to his own insurance company or IF arriva pay out of good will but i doubt it tight cun|s

But if i am not mistaken busses dont have keys, they have a turn switch wich starts the bus.

But you forgot to say that there is an excess of £200 to pay. I am the person who was hit by the bus. If forensics & finger prints are to be carried out, then surely the person who drove the bus away should have worn GLOVES, yET ANOTHER FOUL UP FROM THAMES VALLEY POLICE...

What not time for another fire at the school then?
I wonder if they collected fares to feed their drug habits as they went along?
