ANTI-INCINERATOR campaigners presented a 3,000-name petition to Buckinghamshire County Council today.

A public consultation by the council on possible sites for an 'energy from waste' facility ends today.

Members of Bucks Residents Against Incinerators took their collected responses to County Hall in Aylesbury this morning.

They presented them to Bill Chapple, the council's deputy leader.

The group handed over a further 1,600 completed official response forms.

BRAINS spokesman Rod Whyte said: "We don't know how much they will take it into account. We have done some useful and interesting work showing how it's unsound."

He added: "We have to keep the whole issue alive until the inquiry and then it's a question of an inspector having been appointed and taking views from consultees.

"BRAINS hope to be a consultee."

The council wants to site a waste burner at Wapseys Wood, in Oxford Road, Gerrards Cross, and Calvert in the north of the county. Springfield Farm in Broad Lane, Beaconsfield, is a reserve site.

Mr Whyte added that he believed ten per cent of south Bucks have had their say.

3000 names isn't that many.

It doesn't matter whether the petition had three names or three billion names as a "petition" carries exactly the same weight as a single letter of complaint on these issues.

The leader of Telford Council said the above at the public meeting about health hazards of opencasting at Lawley Church Hall on 4 April 2008, when Dr Dick van Steenis was lecturing.
