A BUS carrying ten passengers had to be evacuated after a fire broke out.

A small fire started in the engine compartment of the vehicle at around 5pm as it travelled along Station Road, Beaconsfield, close to the junction with Candlemas Lane.

The driver was able to remove everyone from the bus and start to put the fire out before a crew from Beaconsfield Fire Station finished the job.

Frasier Pearson, head of communications at Bucks Fire and Rescue, said: "Before it had taken hold, the driver was able to stop the vehicle safely, see everyone off it and without opening the engine compartment, started to tackle the fire with a foam extinguisher. So he did all the right things.

"The fire fighters then finished off with the hose reel."

No. It just shows the level of feeling against the complex in the town. Perhaps something should be done to address the problem of the complex rather than asking the towns people to move?

If the towns people are being asked to move as a result of the complex then firstly it is an admission of the failure of the complex and secondly it will only stoke up even greater anger in the towns people against the complex.

what ARE you going on about?! this is an article about a bus catching fire, not another rant about Eden! I agree with the inspector, all this anti-Eden stuff is getting rather boring now!

It's simple really, Eden is like Marmite, (and i don't mean the guy who posts on here ), you either love it or hate it, either way you have to accept it's there for those that want it. If you don't want it, then just walk past it.

Back to the fire on the bus. I think the driver should be commended for his fast thinking & actions that brought it to a safe conclusion.

Indeed Julie, and thankfully no one was hurt.

If the bus companies keep shipping 13 year old+ buses into the local depots as 'new' then we should expect breakdowns and the odd fire or two as the norm. Disgraceful; let's have some new buses- 300 route take note!

Which Bus company was this?

I would guess it was an Arriva bus, as I'm not sure Carousel serve Beaconsfield. Arriva buses break down on a regular basis anyway. I pine for the days of Wycombe Bus Company. They weren't perfect by any stretch of the imagination but their buses pretty much always turned up in my experience. With Arriva you can be standing in the bus station waiting for a bus to leave, then when you finally ask at the 'helpdesk' they tell you they don't have enough drivers, or the bus has broken down. So why not tell the people that are waiting? Arriva are a joke, and unfortunately have become a bigger joke since the new station opened.
