A BUS carrying ten passengers had to be evacuated after a fire broke out.

A small fire started in the engine compartment of the vehicle at around 5pm as it travelled along Station Road, Beaconsfield, close to the junction with Candlemas Lane.

The driver was able to remove everyone from the bus and start to put the fire out before a crew from Beaconsfield Fire Station finished the job.

Frasier Pearson, head of communications at Bucks Fire and Rescue, said: "Before it had taken hold, the driver was able to stop the vehicle safely, see everyone off it and without opening the engine compartment, started to tackle the fire with a foam extinguisher. So he did all the right things.

"The fire fighters then finished off with the hose reel."
