Shopping in the dark during the power cut at Eden
HIGH Wycombe town centre suffered a major power cut this morning.
Part of the Eden shopping centre was plunged into darkness and there was chaos on the roads as traffic lights failed to work.
A generator also caught fire in the grounds of Wycombe Hospital, but the main buildings were not evacuated.
John Bull, station manager at High Wycombe Fire Station, said: "The power went off and the generator kicked in and blew a gasket."
No one is believed to have been hurt.
The power cut is thought to have spread out from the town centre as far as the Lane End area.
Three fire engines were called to the grounds of Wycombe Hospital to tackle the fire, which did not spread to any of the buildings.
