Sunshine brings out petrolheads

8:27pm Sunday 22nd June 2008

MORE car-fans crowded in the Rye today, for the last day of the Bucks Free Press Motorshow.

And the bright weather brought motoring enthusiasts and curious passers-by in right from the start.

But some thought that the yesterday's weather brought out the more serious petrolheads.

Phil Vockins, salesman at Perry's in Amersham, explained that although the turnout was bigger today, the Alfa Romeos on the stand had been catching eyes all weekend.

He said: "We had quite a lot of interest yesterday. I suppose when the weather's not quite as good you get people here who are more serious about cars."

The stands were steadily busy throughout the day, and the funfair was proving popular with youngsters.

Mark Hudson, general manager of Citigate Volkswagon said: "We took about 50 enquiries yesterday, and probably more today, so it's been very good.

"We actually had someone come back after the show last night for a drive."

He said the new Passat CC, which doesn't launch for another month had been getting the attention.

Philip Mengel, 40, of Rushmore Avenue, Hazlemere, was visiting the show with his family, combining an afternoon out with some research into what his next purchase would be.

He said: "It's something to enjoy, and my little boy's into cars.

"It's good to sit in the cars, and to get everything in the same area - it makes it quite easy. It's all well and good seeing them on the internet, but you can get a better feel for them like this.

"It's given us a good flavour of what we'll go for."
