SPORTSMEN will be able to sign up for their first taste of rowing as part of course being held this summer.

The program is being run by Marlow Rowing Club, and is being dubbed the First Row Challenge.

Teams of four will be allowed to take part, and no prior experience is necessary.

After they have signed up the groups will be assigned a cox, who will sit in their boat and steer when they are on the water.

The crews will have to do three on-water training sessions, plus a minimum of one in the gym, training on rowing machines.

At the end of their training they will be able to take part in a regatta on the river in Marlow.

Simon Manley from Henley Road, Marlow, took part last year.

He said: "I was amazed at how good the crews were after such a little amount of time on the water.

"You wouldn't think that you were watching a group who had only had three hours out there."

Mr Manley said that his wife Louise took part last year, and she is still rowing with her three crew mates.

The team recently rowed at the Marlow Regatta, and are preparing for another in Maidenhead.

Anyone who wants to get involved should email firstrow@themarlowregatta.com

Can I have a go at being the cox? The idea of sitting in a boat and enjoying the ride while someone else does the hard work rowing sounds most appealing to me....
