PHOTOGRAPHERS from a south Bucks club are getting ready for a competition to find some of the country's best camera artists.

The Amersham Photographic Society will be exhibiting its best work at the Photographic Alliance of Great Britain's annual competition this Saturday at Warwick University.

There will be 35 teams from across the country taking part in the competition.

Club chairman Peter Jones said: "Amersham has always done consistently well, but it depends entirely on the judges on the day.

"We're a highly successful society in terms of the competition element.

"We produce a very high standard of photography, which is inspirational for our members."

The society has more than 100 members, and meets every Monday night at the Amersham Community Centre in Chiltern Avenue, Amersham.

According to Mr Jones, photography can be an enriching experience: "To me, the great interest in the hobby is because the camera gets you to places which otherwise you wouldn't go to.

"You travel a lot more with the camera than you might without one.

"It encourages you to live a fuller life,"

He said that members of the group had recently returned from a tour of the Galapagos Islands with some spectacular shots.

"I'm sure if they hadn't had their cameras with them then they wouldn't have had the same impetus to go."

An exhibition of the group's work will be held from August 29 - 31 at the Market hall in Old Amersham.

Old-fangled or new-fangled cameras?

We have a silhouette that would need to know.
