RESIDENTS are heading to the ballot box today for a parish council by-election for the Cookham Rise Ward.

It follows the resignation of councillor John Hewitt earlier this year.

Mr Hewitt of Westwood Green, Cookham, who runs his own catering business, cited work pressures for standing down.

There are three candidates for the seat: Fiona Elizabeth Hewer of Lower Road, Cookham, representing the Liberal Democrat party, and two independents - Beryl Georgina Phyliss McNeaney of Dean Lane, Cookham Dean, and Nigel John Russell Topping of Romanlea, Cookham.

Voters can make their choice at the polling station in Pinder Hall, Lower Road, Cookham, which opened at 7am and closes at 10pm.
