DRIVERS are being warned to take care on the roads tomorrow, with more heavy rain forecast.

The Met Office has said as much as 30mm could fall, which could lead to possible trouble on the roads.

Firefighters today issued safety advice to drivers ahead.

Chief Fire Officer Damian Smith said motorists should avoid driving through flooded roads or fords, as the water is often deeper than it looks.

He said even shallow fast-moving water can sweep people off their feet and there may be hidden dangers such as open drains, damaged road surfaces, submerged debris or deep channels.

These can cause serious injuries or even death.

He also advised children should not be allowed to play in flood water, as it can become contaminated with sewerage and chemicals.

He said: “The Met Office have told us there could be 20 to 30mm of rain during Friday, in addition to the heavy rain we are experiencing today.

"We are expecting a burst of rain in the early hours of the morning, followed by another one later in the morning and then heavy showers in the afternoon and evening.”
