INCREASING traffic has led to a need for more school crossing patrollers throughout the county.

Up to 80,000 parents, pupils and staff take to the roads in Buckinghamshire each day to get to school - meaning there is an even greater need for crossing patrollers.

Bucks County Council has now appealed for volunteers to come forward to act as a lollipop man or lady.

Val Letheren, the county council’s cabinet member for transportation, said: "School Crossing Patrollers do a tremendous job getting our children to school, and home again, safely.

“This in turn helps with wider issues such as encouraging both parents and children to walk to school, reducing traffic congestion around schools and helping to improve everyone's health".

Schools in the area looking for school crossing staff are:

Holmer Green, Browns Road

Butlers Court, Station Road, Beaconsfield

St Mary's, Maxwell Road, Beaconsfield

High March Private Girls School, Ledborough Lane, Beaconsfield

Elangeni Junior, Woodside Road, Amersham

St Joseph Catholic School, Priory Road, Chalfont St Peter

St Augustines's Catholic School, Daws Hill Lane, High Wycombe

Beechview School, Hatters Lane, High Wycombe

Highworth Combined School, Totteridge Road, High Wycombe

Loudwater Combined, Kingsmead Road, Loudwater

Widmer End, Brimmers Hill

St Paul's Combined School, Wooburn Green

Most of the traffic near the schools is from the mothers dropping of their children because they can’t be bothered to walk to school!

Stop the children arriving in cars and there would be no need for extra crossing staff!
