TAXI fares in the Chiltern district look set to rise by ten per cent.
Spiralling fuel, labour and vehicle costs are being blamed for the increase, which will make a two-mile journey 45p more expensive.
Chiltern District Council, which is responsible for setting the rates, has asked for the public to comment on the proposals.
Rachel Prance, communications officer for the council, said: “If there are no objections, fares will increase by ten per cent.
“If there are, it will be referred back to the licensing committee.
“We are encouraging people to send in their ideas.”
Taxi operators in the district are also being consulted.
Residents have until October 2 to respond to the consultation.
Comments can either be emailed to info@chiltern.gov.uk or sent in writing to the Taxi Licensing Committee, Chiltern District Council, King George V Road, Amersham HP6 5AW.
