THE most promising young athletes and sports clubs across the district were awarded more than £30,000 at at Wycombe District Council's annual community sports awards last night.

Grants went to community sports groups and young athletes who represent their sport at county, national and international levels.

Olympians Katherine Grainger, Sarah Winckless and Paralympian Ian Rose joined councellor Roger Wilson, chairman of Wycombe District Council, to present the awards.

This year’s Sir Steve Redgrave Sports Bursary - an award of £1,500 and a silver salver from Marlow Chamber of Trade, which they keep for a year - went to Jenna Woolven. She has represented England in the under-18 hockey team and was chosen to represent the country in the Home Nations tournament earlier this summer.
