MORE than 50 shoppers flooded into Wycombe’s brand new Primark store when it opened for business this morning.

The store is already packed with people, and more than 100 have piled in through the doors since the 9am opening.

Queues had been building outside the shop since around 7.10am, as eager customers flocked to see what the latest retail giant to arrive in town had to offer.

Clowns wandered through the waiting crowd to drum up even more excitement.

Belinda Blackaby, 45, a hairdresser from Wendover took the morning off work so she could be among the first through the shop’s doors.

She said: “I have a very understanding boss. We had to do a school run so we literally got here about five minutes before it opened.

“It’s fantastic and we have only just got in the first bit. We’re definitely going to be regular customers.”

She was there with friend and colleague Natalie Searle, 22.

Belinda added: “We have got to get as much as possible for everybody back at work and grab what we can.”

The new Primark is located in the Chiltern Centre, on the site of the old Marks and Spencer store.

"Clowns wandered through the waiting crowd"

That's a bit rude, but I agree, the place must have been full of clowns - and muppets...

This is post of the day as far as I am concerned and I nearly spat coffee all over my keyboard in my mirth!
How very true though - as they say - many a true word uttered in jest!

I can't believe there is such fuss about a clothes shop. Maybe you can buy clothes for a third of the price you'd pay elsewhere, but it'll probably only last a third as long before falling apart.

I just noticed that there are three stories about Primark in the space of two days on this site. How the hell does another tacky clothes shop deserve such coverage? Are Primark paying the BFP for this?

You are so right Kadoogan. i have not been in there and i have no intention of EVER going in there - cheap rubbish that is what they sell and I am sure that they will do well as people are gullible enough to believe they are getting bargains.

primark - glorified Pound shop!

Well I went to Primark after work yesterday, although it was heaving and saw a lot I recognised, I bought loads of bits....bargain!

I love Primark, saves me going to Watford now.

And Smiley....Primark is not a glorified pound shop....don't knock it till you've tried it.

On reading this a touch of History came back to 1955/56 when this very building opened as Marks and Spencer replacing the old Mcliroy's Store and remembering on my way to school on the bus around 8.30 a.m. crowds plus photographers outside awaiting the opening of High Wycombe's first newley built store since the war.I think I've got the year right but definitly in the late fifties.

I rarely post there now - same old same old so you are not missing anything!
I am taking Eris with me on Sunday for protection!

I am fine - hope you are too!
Perhaps we should nag the BFP to start a forum here - that would be immense!
