Top cop's panto past

MARLOW’S new top cop has revealed a secret passion for panto, and has written the script for the annual town performance three years running.

Ray Wilks, who took over as inspector for the rural area surrounding High Wycombe this week, wrote versions of Cinderella, Beauty and the Beast and The Adventures of Sinbad, which were performed by the Marlow Entertainers.

Inspector Wilks, who lives in Marlow, will be responsible for overseeing the policing of his home town, Bourne End, Princes Risborough, Wooburn Green, Flackwell Heath and Hazlemere.

The married, 43-year-old father of three, also revealed a love of rugby and golf. Inspector Wilks is a former back row rugby player who organises the police team, and admitted to being “one of the worst golf players”.

He said: “I want people to know who I am. What I also want is every person in every community to know who their neighbourhood officers are and who their PCSOs (police community support officers) are.

“It’s not just me, it’s everybody working for me.”

He joined the force more than 25 years ago, worked as a PC for seven years, sergeant for 11 and an inspector for eight.

Along the way he has worked for the traffic department and in an anti-terrorism department.

He said: “I always wanted to stand up for the weaker man.”

Over the coming months Inspector Wilks plans to focus on tackling antisocial behaviour, with a drive on Halloween.

He said: “Every child out trick or treating should be supervised by a parent.

“If they’re too old to be supervised, they’re too old to be trick or treating.”
