Complaint over "racist" KKK Marlow graffiti

A CONCERNED Marlow worker has urged authorities to remove a “racist” symbol of American far right group Ku Klux Klan at a skatepark.

The IT developer said the KKK stencil and accompanying pointed hat symbol at the skatepark in Higginson Park was racist.

The man, who wishes to remain anonymous, has sent images to a council urging the graffiti be removed.

The 29-year-old, from the Heathrow area, wrote: “I am emailing you regarding the racist graffiti that is on the skate ramps in Higginson Park, Marlow.

“The ramps have four images depicting the mask of the Ku Klux Klan as well as the initials KKK.”

He wrote: “As someone who works in Marlow and walks through the park everyday I find this to be extremely concerning as it is normally young children and teenagers who use that area of the park

“Whether the markings have been sprayed their without knowledge of who the KKK are, or whether it is a deliberate act by KKK supporters I do not know and can only guess.

“Judging by the state of some of the markings I would say that some have only recently been added. where as others appear to be older.”

He added: “I trust that you will take the appropriate action.”

The email was sent to Buckinghamshire County Council.

The council told Bucks Free Press it has sent to the email to Wycombe District Council, which is responsible for the skatepark.

If there is offensive graffiti somewhere and someone decides to get rid of it by spray painting over it, would they then be committing a criminal offence?

Its just a thought, but perhaps offensive graffiti can be spray painted over until the council gets themselves moving and actually removes it.

Slacker,
I once did as you suggest, the council went door to door asking if people knew who painted 'over it' so they could prosecute the offender who had obliterated it.
It was ironic that prior to my painting expo I had contacted the council (WDC) many times only to be told they could do nothing to remove the words that offended many immigrant groups because despite writing to the owners of the properties for permission, none had replied.
That was several years ago, surely there should be a law to allow councils to remove or compel private owners to remove graffiti of an offensive nature.

Why is the word racist in inverted commas? Is the BFP confused over whether or not a white-power organisation such as the KKK is actually racist? Are they concerned that David Duke will take offence at being tagged as a bigot? What hope is there of combattign bigotry when people refuse to call it what it plainly is.
