STAFF at Micklefield library were given a surprise cash windfall when a developer spotted that their battered, 1950s' cast iron toilet was a valuable antique.
The library, which is set to undergo a £700,000 revamp, was visited by a developer who thought that the tatty convenience would look great in one of his other properties.
The man has offered staff at the High Wycombe library around £500 for the toilet, which features a large iron cistern suspended around seven feet in the air and a long pull-chain.
Librarian Nicola Davies said: “I mentioned something about it as a joke, and he said, 'really? You've got an elevated cistern?' and he came out really excited.
“You could stick it in Victorian housing. It would be perfect.”
