Wycombe council told in January market organisers were failing

High Wycombe Market High Wycombe Market

WYCOMBE District Council knew the company which runs the High Wycombe market were in administration nearly three weeks ago.

It emerged yesterday Hughmark International had gone into administration, although the council were told the same information on Monday, January 26.

Market traders in the town centre have still not been officially informed by the company or the council about their position, or whether they will get refunds on rent advances paid to the company.

Hughmark Continental, a sister company of the failed operator, has been granted a temporary licence to operate the market.

What do you expect the Council to do? Bail out the company!!!!

I am assuming the company is responsible for informing the traders and not the Counil.

It does seem a strange spin to try to put on the story...

why dont the council take over the running of the market as thay seem intent on telling everyone that thay are so good if the traders loose money thay shood back them in getting refunds if the market goes then the town will fall one step nearer to a goast town

A strange spin indeed.

This is going to affect all the merchants, it could affect all the people who shop at the market too.
I hope the difference wont be too bad as I think the market had become a lot smarter in the past year with the new stalls.

There are a lot of things to discuss here, but the BFP chose instead to run it as a 'council withholding information story'. Cheap journalism.
