Eden and Sainsbury's agree to bring out the clown in Wycombe

A CLOWN who was looking to help raise money for Comic Relief will be entertaining the public in High Wycombe town centre twice next week.

Wojciech Szenfeld, who was a professional clown for more than 10 years in his native Poland, asked the Bucks Free Press to help him find an event to get involved in around Wycombe.

Just hours after Friday's paper was in the stores he had been asked to help raise cash at charity events being run in the Eden Centre and the Bellfield Road Sainsbury's store.

Mr Szenfeld, who has lived in the UK with his wife and three children for two years, said he was happy to be able to help raise funds for needy children in the UK and abroad.

The 39-year-old said: “I really appreciate the help, and I'm pleasantly surprised by the response we have had.

“It's a really positive thing to be able to help raise money by making people laugh, and I'm glad I will be able to put my skills to good use.”

On Friday he will be appearing at the Eden Centre in full clown costume where he will entertain the crowds whilst managers there have funny things done to their hair.

Nick Warren, the marketing manager at the centre, said: “We're really happy for people to come down and use Eden as a place to raise awareness among the community of good causes.

“When I saw the story in Friday's paper I thought we should get him down.

“I will be raising money by shaving half my beard off and walking round like that for the day, and we have a lot of other entertaining things lined up for the management.”

On Saturday Mr Szenfeld will be using his clowning skills, which include face painting and balloon modelling, to generate cash at Sainsbury's in the town centre. Other events going on at the store that day will include a sponsored cycle on exercise bikes,

A clown at the complex is a great idea. No doubt the act will compliment the surroundings well.
