THE wife of of television sports presenter Jim Rosenthal said she “can't remember being so ill” after the couple recovered from the mysterious stomach bug which afflicted diners at celebrity chef Heston Blumethal's Fat Duck restaurant.

Former Newsnight producer Chrissy Rosenthal, from Cookham, said she and ITV football frontman Jim had been “debilitated” by the the illness but were now better nearly a month after they were struck down.

The pair visited the restaurant in Bray, Berkshire, run by 'culinary alchemist' Blumenthal with boxing promoter Frank Warren to celebrate Chrissy's birthday.

They suffered from diarrhoea, sickness and fatigue after the night out on February 17.

No cause has yet been identified for the outbreak but around 400 people reported being ill after attending the restaurant.

Chrissy, who helps run events at the Stanley Spencer Gallery in Cookham, said: “We are both fine now, we are better. We had two weeks of being completely wiped out and debilitated by it. It was really nasty, I can't remember being so ill before.

“It was a special occasion and a wonderful evening, that was the sad thing about it.”

Jim, who presented the live FA Cup semi-final draw at the weekend, continued working despite the bug but was still feeling the worse for wear when he presented a boxing show from Norwich.

Chrissy said: “The make up lady said she had never seen him with bags under his eyes before.”

The eating establishment was closed whilst investigations were carried by the Health Protection Agency out but has re-opened today.

Spokesman Claudette Malone said: “So far no one source has been identified.

"Results of some tests are still awaited and the detailed questioning of people who reported illness is likely to continue for some weeks in order to build a more complete picture.”
