AN ENFIELD man who was killed and his body dumped in a canal may have been executed because of his links to the drugs trade.

Erkan Konakli, 23, of Maltby Drive, was reported missing from his home 12 days ago but was found dead on Wednesday.

A post mortem confirmed he died from a single bullet wound to the back of the head, a method described by police as 'a classic execution-style killing'.

His body was discovered in a canal by Willington Court in Mandeville Street, Clapton, just before 3pm on Wednesday.

The last sighting of Mr Konakli had been in Stoke Newington, at the junction of Newington Green and Albion Road, on November 7.

Police believe the motive for the murder may have been connected to Mr Konakli's links to drugs and the criminal underworld.

Speaking to the Independent yesterday, investigating officer DS Andy Kennedy said: "It is fair to say that he was involved in drug trafficking and his murder is similar to an execution.

"We are seeking to establish his movements between him going missing and his body being discovered."

An urgent appeal for witnesses and information has been put out to the public.

DS Kennedy said officers were "vigorously pursuing" the case.

Mr Konakli was a Turkish Cypriot, about 5ft 8ins tall and of medium build.

He was last seen wearing a baseball cap, blue and green trainers, blue jogging trousers and a top.
