MARTIN Phillips was tonight elected as the new Mayor of Amersham.
He was appointed to the post by colleagues on the town council after serving as Deputy Mayor to Martin King for the past two years.
And he said his predecessor in the post would be a tough act to follow.
Cllr Phillips said: “I’d like to thank the outgoing Mayor, Martin King, for all the energy, work, enthusiasm and everything else he’s put into the job in the last two years.
“He’s raised the bar so high it will be hard to keep up with what he’s done already.”
Cllr Phillips was nominated for the position by Cllr Tony Weedon, he who said had provided “more service for the local community than the rest of us put together”.
He added: “Thank you very much for the trust and faith you have put in me.”
Cllr Michael Andrews-Reading was appointed as the new Deputy Mayor.
