Bucks MP claimed for toiletries and dry cleaning

A BUCKINGHAMSHIRE MP has paid back expenses claims on moisturiser, toothpaste and body spray revealed today in The Daily Telegraph.

David Lidington, MP for Aylesbury, which covers Princes Risborough, also claimed £1,300 for laundry over four years. This included a bath mat and towel.

In May 2006 he claimed £51.09 for two Boots receipts including Wellman Viabotics, L’Oreal moisturiser, Sensodyne toothpaste and body spray. This was approved.

Mr Lidington told Bucks Free Press he claimed for laundry as there was not a washing machine in his second home, a flat in Westminster.

He said: “While the claims were within the rules I understand some people might feel they were over-generous.

“I have referred them to the Conservatives’ scrutiny panel and will abide by any decision they make.”

The Daily Telegraph reported that the shadow foreign minister collected four receipts from the same Westminster dry cleaner in July 2006.

Mr Lidington said of the toiletries claims: “I now accept that while they were valid many people would see them as over-generous.

“That is why I paid back the money I claimed for toiletries 10 days ago.”

The paper also revealed Chesham and Amersham MP Cheryl Gillan claimed £4.74 for dog food. She said it was a mistake and will repay the money.

OK OK... so we all know the councilors are a bunch of thieves and that this is no longer news!

Can we please get back to the amount of dog poo in lane end and the lack of loos in Wooburn Green!

The Amersham and Chesham MP is less of a cheat than the Aylesbury MP.

Perhaps we need a league table. There will be no one in the Premier league because they are all at it.

David Lidington may be in the second division but may be relegated to the third division depending on the third umpire.

Cheryl Gillam is already in the reserves and may be kicked out of the league altogether but she has the support of her managers.

Not sure what league or division Paul Goodman MP is in - he is keeping his head down - possibly in training for Rugby!

Dominic Grieve MP is hiding out at his cottage in Marlow - a 2nd house not in London and not in his constituency. He is in training for draughts.

So going on that... as a public sector worker , when I put in my modest expenses ( which really is only petrol people on occassion!), would anyone mind if I claimed for my oral hygiene?

Am I missing something - how is toothpaste a personal expense?

I believe that HMRC do not allow those kinds of expenditure as tax deductible against income, so why would an MP think it was OK to claim them?

He is just greedy and got caught out.

By repaying the money it's an admission of guilt. But if we do not allow thieves and robbers to repay the mnoney to get off, why should we accept that from cheating MPs?

Apparently the Conservative Party in Bucks thinks that is OK. See story on Cheryl Gillam.

They come across as a load of hypocritical cheap-skate twisters.

AND they still do NOT appear to understand why people are upset and very angry.

That's because they have been infected by the toxic selfish system they've become embroiled in.

There is no cure !

They are still the same greedy opportunists ('I only followed OUR RULES) as they were before.

BUT THIS TIME they got caught with their dirty hands in the cookie jar - they are 'sorry' they got caught that's all.

That's All, Folks.

Let me get this straight... If an MP gets caught stealing, providing he says sorry and gives the criminal gain back, he gets off, and is allowed to remain an MP until the next election, thereby pocketing another £200,000 as a thank you gift.
So if I now wander into ASDA and steal a banana, I have to say sorry, give it back, then wait for my MP to send me £200,000 in recognition of my honesty???

Strangely, I used to think it was laudable that I see David Lidington taking his kids to school in Risborough EVERY morning...now I find out he claims £19,000 for a second home in Westminster. Hmmmmm. There was me thinking he obviously commuted home every night like normal Bucks folk.

. ## Honest hour ##

- DAVID LIVINGTON, MP for Aylesbury: has paid backwhen exposed parliamentary expenses claims

for his moisturiser, toothpaste and body spray - seeking re-election.

- CHERYL GILLON, MP for Chesham and Amersham: has paid back, when exposed, expenses for her
dog food - claimed on parliamentary allowance - seeking re-election. Three homes. Loves dogs.

Husband is also taxpayer-paid, as her assistant/research/p
ress monitor. Nebulous arrangements.

Full support of her local party association meeting in private.
--
Remarks:
- So laudable. People like that you can trust, especially on the on the detail.
- It is a privilege to be registered as their constituents.
- Mock not, these honest and well-fragrant current MPs, for the Aylesbury, and Chiltern areas, come

General Election time. Show your appreciation. Endorse too their well-connected local front

running-dogs at local level, in the interim.

- Our current local MPs are as honest as the day is long. Just like their supporting Councillors and

local Chief Executive Officers.

- How well they have served us, witness in the local press (the mentions & dated, caring mugshots),

the risible, ghost-scripted (?) Letters from the House.

- All honest and honourable. Pros; Cons.: professional conservatives.

- Be it ne'er be heard, that we be represented, in Buckinghamshire, by matured
petty fiddlers and crooks.
