A MAN has been pulled from the wreckage of a High Wycombe building after the roof collapsed on him.

Firefighters, police and ambulance staff rushed to The Hurricane Room pool club in Corporation Street after reports the first floor of the building collapsed and trapped a worker inside at about 2.31pm.

The man is not believed to have suffered serious injuries and the emergency services are currently at the scene.

The club will release a statement later today, Friday.

The trapped man was believed to have been on the phone to a friend when the ceiling collapsed.

Witness Moira Gomes said: “We were in the building adjacent to the Hurricane Room and were very concerned – we came out onto the balcony and saw the building had collapsed.

“The emergency services have been going in and out of the building to assess the damage, the road is still cordoned off and it looks like the whole centre part of the roof has collapsed.”

Insp Keith Thompson said: “Police are currently helping to ensure public safety at Hurricane Rooms, Corporation Street, where a ceiling of a building has collapsed.

"As a precaution, Corporation Street has been closed off between the High Street and Castle Street until further notice while the building is being inspected by Wycombe District Council. A man received minor injuries."

Corporation Street was closed for more than an hour while emergency services attended the scene but it was re-opened at about 4.10pm.
