PLANNING bosses could endorse a second supermarket in Marlow.
A plan puts forward using either council-owned Liston Road or Dean Street car parks or Portlands for a “modest” second store.
This would sit alongside an extended Sainsbury’s, to open in Waitrose in West Street.
Waitrose has said it wants to re-open at Chapel House offices in Liston Road.
Paul Deriaz, planning spokesman for the Marlow Society conservation group, said: “A second supermarket would be good for the town.
“I think most residents want Waitrose to remain in the town.”
A council report says: “There is sufficient expenditure capacity for a new good store development in the town.”
This would open before 2016.
Yet the council says using Dean Street could see parking lost unless other spaces are found and the loss of parking at West Street car park if Portlands was used.
If not used for a supermarket, Liston Road car park could be used for homes with the same amount of spaces kept.
An exhibition on the plans, part of a move to agree WDC planning guidance up to 2026, will be held on Tuesday July 7 in the General Higginson Room, Court Garden between 2pm and 8pm.
The plans are out to consultation from Monday. See our website for the full plans.

I have to say something nice about Marlow cos I have had a challenge set.. hmm now let me see... I do hope that the supermarket has plenty of parking for the 4x4's that are driven in the picturesque High Street. Is that okay???

I mean - a Smart car is fine but what a pity you can't be like the other charming and considerate Marlovians and drive a humble 4x4.smiley cat wrote: I have to say something nice about Marlow cos I have had a challenge set.. hmm now let me see...
