FLY-TIPPERS have been given a stark warning this new year - big brother will be watching.
Buckinghamshire County Council said it will be using CCTV cameras to monitor sites and people who dump rubbish illegally will be prosecuted.
So far more than 30 incidents have been recorded at sites across the county.
Margaret Dewar, chairman of the joint waste committee, said: "I am really pleased with how successful the CCTV has been so far in catching people dumping rubbish illegally.
"This has become a very costly problem in Buckinghamshire and we will continue to use CCTV over the Christmas period and during the New Year to watch for those illegally dumping and with the footage we will aim to secure more convictions."
Illegal dumping had cost the local authorities £500,000 last year in taxpayers' money. People who are caught can be fined up to £20,000 or be imprisoned.
Anyone who witnesses rubbish being dumped illegally is asked to call the council's 24-hour hotline on 0845 330 1856.
