BEACONSFIELD went to the races on Saturday as residents gathered to place their bets on the town's tenth annual Donkey Derby, writes Jonathan Reilly.
The event saw an array of attractions for families as well as seven donkey races. Punters could bet on the mules just like any normal derby.
The day also saw a fly past by the Chiltern Air Ambulance, as well as a performance from a local dance club.
John Leane, a member of the Beaconsfield Lions who organised the event in partnership with St. Mary’s School, said: “It went very well; it was a lovely day for it and some of the side shows were very popular, especially the donkey rides and the bouncy castle.”
“There was a really good turnout with local MP Dominic Grieve and the town crier also making appearances.”
The aim of the day was to raise money for Beaconsfield community projects and Mr Leane is hopeful that event achieved its goal. “We hope to have raised between £2000 and £3000 from the derby. The money will be shared between the school and community projects funded by the Beaconsfield Lions.”
