I spent two hours in the jam that ensued after this accident, and I can't begin to articulate how disgusted I am with the selfish idiots who decided to use the hard shoulder to get off the motorway at Junction 6. At one point, the hard shoulder was as full as the left hand lane, and also stationary. Emergency vehicles were already using it, and whilst I was sitting there an ambulance was prevented from getting to the scene bu all these cars. Shame on the lot of you..

I totally agree with you. That's why I am opposed to the government's scheme of allowing the hard shoulder to be used as a running lane on some motorways instead of widening it.

Do these people who use the hard shoulder not realise what a dangerous thing it is to do?

I too was on the section just before Junction 6, and well done to the guy in an old Rover 200 who partially blocked the hard shoulder to stop these XXXts doing this.

Thankfully an unmarked police car did disperce the majority of the traffic that had build up on the hard shoulder when I was there.

Ironically the people who had used to 'jump' the queue exited at J6 slightly after me, who had waited in the left hand lane.

Oliver Is a land ambulance the same as an ambulance! Why does the arrival of a helicopter mean you have to identify an ambulance as being anything other than an ambulance.

I hope those involved make a swift and full recovery.

The most worrying point of the article to me is that people were ejected from the vehicle. I may be wrong but that would suggest at least some were not wearing seatbelts.

I have noticed a concerning amount of people not wearing them and even children jumping around on the back seats of cars lately.

People that get caught without a seatbelt, particularly persistent offenders should be shown graphic photos of such incidents to remind them there *is* a reason cars come equipped with them!

Hope all involved recover quickly. I too thought they must not be wearing seatbelts to be ejected. It's aproven fact wearing seatbelts save lives. I heard people say that they know people who have been trapped by seatbelts in an accident but in this case they can be cut off and at least it's stopped you being hurt further. In the tragic Princess Diana crash the only survivor was the bodyguard, who had put his seatbelt on!
