Lack of money threatens Marlow residents' wish for end to ticket dodgers parking in their street

A LACK of funds threatens to stop residents being granted their wish for an end to town centre parking ticket dodgers clogging up their streets.

Agitated residents from a trio of adjoining streets in Marlow - Penwood Road, Westwood Road and Harwood Road – want a change to parking restrictions because they say it has become “one big car park”.

Parking laws have been more strictly enforced after Wycombe District Council took over responsibility in October from Thames Valley Police, which gave the job a low priority.

Commuters, shoppers and parents and pupils at Sir William Borlase’s School in West Street have started using the three roads to park in order to dodge wardens in the town centre, they believe.

The group of householders submitted a 60 page document to Buckinghamshire County Council parking manager John Charlton in June.

It followed a meeting at Christ Church United Reformed Church in Oxford Road, Marlow, where townsfolk expressed dismay about the impact parking clampdown in since October.

Richard Pearson, 68, a magistrate of Harwood Road, who chaired the meeting in June said parking was worse than it had ever been since he moved to Marlow in 1966.

“We want to make it clear to the authorities at BCC that there is a serious problem - we are all living in a car park now,” he said.

Organisers said another problem is the lack of spaces for emergency vehicles such as ambulances to park.

Mr Charlton said he had been inundated by around 500 requests for parking restriction changes across Wycombe District but the concerns of the affiliate of Marlow residents would be considered as part of that process.

An informal and a formal consultation will take place but a lack of money could prove a stumbling block, he admitted.

Buckinghamshire County councillor Doug Anson is examining alternative ways of funding and Marlow Town Council could also be asked to contribute money, he said.

Mr Charlton said “every effort” would be made to address residents' concerns “once the money is available” and inspections will be carried out in each area.

One of the key concerns raised by residents from the trinity of Marlow streets was the hazards posed by vehicles being left on the corners of roads and at junctions.

They proposed double yellow lines should be painted in these areas to prevent parking and improve safety.

Mr Charlton said: “If a safety concern is raised we will address that through a different way.”

Right, so the Council have created this problem and they want to resolve it by painting more yellow lines, you couldn't make it up.

Sorry - are you all so mean spirited and petty that you have not questioned why that ambulance is parked illegally??

FFS - it is obvious - if the ambulance had parked on the road, thus narrowing the road way it would have caused an obstruction.
WTF do you all think it is doing there.. having a break?
NO - the paramedics are probably saving someone's life - hence why it is there.

Lets hope NONE of you ever need an ambulance - your comments sicken me...

So maybe that ambulance is on an emergency visit and clearly could not stop outside the house without double parking. All you have to do is walk round it!

Instead question why the ambulance has to park like that.

But even if the road was empty and it was an emergency the ambulance would still park there to be closer to the scene.

good point demoness I didnt think of that one.I thought it was parked there to ratchet up this pathetic story, dramatise the scene, demonise the poor accused motorist,a parking point to meet attendance times,or the most damning thought was they had gone for an ice cream! How did I miss the point of them rushing in to save someones life.Maybe its because they would have just pulled up and sod the traffic if it was an emergency and not park so the driver cant get out of his door!

FFS
Are you seriously saying that the ambulance was planted there as some sort of photo opportunity!
Have you any idea of the pressures that these people work under and to suggest that they are in some sort of collusion with the police and BFP is juvenile in the extreme.
And anyone with a modicum of sense would know that an ambulance driver does have to consider the quickest and safest way of getting to the patient -good lord!

I would say that anyone who is that nitpicky that they have nothing better to do than sit behind a keyboard and moan about our essential services parking should get out more and hope and pray that they never ever have need of an ambulance.
I am sure, when the ambulance arrived that they weren't thinking of where best to park.
Also - you suggesting that they should park on the residents driveway because it is Marlow is a fascile argument in the extreme.

If we are going to play the nit pickers game then I would argue that there is no obvious driveway in that particular road.
You have lost the argument - admit it gracefully and move on...

Just what I was thinking. Not just a pram, you wouldn't get a wheelchair round. It's extremely dangerous.

If it was on an emergency call, then block the road, not the pavement.

As for the parking problem, you don't solve it by painting yellow lines, if people need to park, build a car park.

Loving the armchair know it alls...

Must be marvellous to be so perfect.
Tell you what - why not write and complain to the ambulance service? Oh and while you are there, make sure you complain to the poor person who needed the ambulance...
I bet you are the sort of people who don't make way for ambulances with blue lights either.

But not where the ambulance is..
I don't believe I am having this argument with someone quite so mean spirited , but let me ask you... as an "upright" citzizen, if an ambulance wss parked in such a way in your road, would you find out where they were and ask them to move it?

What a lovely person you are.. really it is so good to know that such people inhabit High Wycombe.
Please god you or your loved ones never have to use an ambulance ... I really mean that.
I pity people like you.. I really do.
And I would put money that you wouldn't.. you, like Ivor, would prefer to come on here and be full of bravado.
Pitiful - I think I will avoid your posts from now onwards - they rarely contain anything that ressembles coherent thought anyway.
