Meeting tonight on Daws Hill and sport centre plans

A PUBLIC meeting will be held tonight on plans to build more than a thousand homes in the Daws Hill area of High Wycombe and redevelop the town’s sports centre.

The meeting on the “M40 gateway” project will be held at Amersham & Wycombe College’s Spring Lane, Flackwell Heath campus from 7pm to 9pm.

Homes and offices could be built on the former RAF Daws Hill, off Daws Hill Lane, and adjoining Abbey Barn south and north.

And Wycombe District Council wants to build a coach station at Wycombe Sports Centre.

This would mean the athletics track would have to move to Sir William Ramsay School, Hazlemere, to make way.

The coach development would fund the re-development of the Handy Cross sports centre, postponed last year because of the credit crunch.

The council plans also include plans for more than 6,000 homes throughout Wycombe district and the redevelopment of High Wycombe town centre.

The Daws Hill section is on page 100.

Another meeting, on sustainability, will be held on Thursday from 7pm to 9pm at John Hampden School, Marlow Hill, High Wycombe.

The only reason traffic actually moves at all in Wycombe is because the SE quadrant of the town has stayed under-developed.

I know one Daws Hill Lane resident who bought at (what turned out to be) the top of the market. He has tried selling recently at a 25% discount to market (a total of 34% down on what he paid originally) because of concerns over these developments and the property just will not shift. He and others are looking at financial ruin.

The Sports Centre/bus interchamge would be an excellent site for a Viewing Tower, alongside these other excellent activities.

People on the motorway network would easily see such a Wycombe district marker from way off and, if suitably equipped, it would be a major tourist attraction in itself.

Pity they can't improve Daws Hill Lane and make it more suitable for the traffic that uses it and get rid of those irritating judder bars.

I never use London Road to get to the other side of town if I can help it.

It's as unnavigable as the Northwest Passage ...

Can the Flackwell roads and indeed Marlow Hill cope with potentially an extra 1,000 cars at rush hour?
Flackwell is already suffering under the strain of people using it as a rat run to bypass other roads, it is just getting worse and worse

the biggest increase in traffic from developments will be Abbey Barn lane ,Kingsmead Road and the Wycombe Marsh which will be a rat run between London Road to the new estate and the M40

Wycomen need to look at less homes and less business development to avoid gridlock --also widening all Wynchbottom Lane to ease traffic in the area
