THE streets of Buckinghamshire are deserted and the population has been evacuated after an alien invasion – at least that is the vision of a young film maker whose new production premières this weekend.
This haunting scenario was dreamt up by aspiring Spielbergs Matt Sears, 21, and Tim Knight, 21, from West Wycombe in a their 25 minute film which will be showcased at Henley cinema on Saturday.
The film makers, who began playing around with a camcorder when they were teenagers, have recently launched their own production company New Flight Pictures and hope their movie – Burning Horizon – will help launch their silver screen careers.
It tells the nightmarish story of an invasion by creatures from another world seen from the perspective of a lone man who has been left stranded in Buckinghamshire following an evacuation.
The only money they spent on the project was £30 for a gas mask.
Matt, of Herrons Place, Marlow, began making the film as part of his animation and visual effects degree at Bucks New University.
He has just been awarded a first and distinction for his work.
The up and coming director, who cites John Woo as his inspiration, also picked up an award at Warner Bros in London after winning a competition run by Digital Video magazine in 2007 for creating a 60 second trailer.
Matt said: “It just started as a hobby when I was 13 and got a camcorder, we kept making films and learning visual effects and things like that. It was all self taught.
“I definitely want to pursue this now as my career.”
In the meantime the pair of producers are getting their production company up and running by making wedding and music videos.
The film is showing at 5.20pm and tickets can be bought on the door.
