LITTLE Chalfont is to host its first ever permanent Farmer's Market next weekend.

The market will become the nineteenth to open up in the Thames Valley region when the village hosts one for the first time on Saturday September 12.

There will be 15 stalls in the Village Hall car park on a monthly basis, with the market coming to town on every second Saturday of the month from 9am-1pm.

Janet Mason, clerk of Little Chalfont Parish Council, said residents were firmly behind the idea.

She said: “Everyone we speak to seems really enthusiastic about it. We've done it once a year on the village green on Village Day and it's always been well received.

“Many of the retailers in the village want to do more to encourage people to shop locally rather than going to a supermarket.”

Surveys carried out as part of a 'market town health check' showed residents had wanted a market to improve the village.

Mrs Mason said: “We are hoping to attract people into the village to promote local produce and healthy eating.

“It's going to be a real farmer's market, not something masquerading as one.

“Thames Valley farmer's market have been very enthusiastic and we've been working away to get this done.”

The market will operate on a six-month trial basis.
