Television studio plan for Beaconsfield Town Hall

A PLAN to transform Beaconsfield Town Hall into a live television studio was met with interest by councillors.

Performance Films aims to shoot 'The Wine Programme' in the historic building and share the lease with the town council.

Producer David Rolfe told the town council last night: “The programmes will be interactive so a live audience in the town hall would be part of the show. We could build this up to be a very lively venue and modern studio space.”

The programme would be aired on the internet and Mr Rolfe plans to create a bar and green room for celebrities, performers and other guests.

There could also be other small performances and concerts in the space.

He said: “The only thing the council would have to sacrifice is these lovely old oak tables.”

“The location is fantastic because we could publicise events on an LED sign to catch the attention of shoppers using Waitrose next door.”

“The shoppers are mostly women and they are the best communicators in the world. It's a prime site to make sure everyone knows about our events.”

The council have been seeking companies to share the lease on the town hall, though in the longer term it could be rebuilt entirely. Performance Films currently rent a small office on the ground floor of the building.

Mayor Ken Brown was positive about the plans: “It would bring more business to Beaconsfield. If the town council and the film company can carry on without to much interference from each other then it could work very well.

“More work is needed on it but I think it's a very good idea and an innovative plan.

“It's urgent that we get the empty office space rented out because we are losing revenue from having the them empty - this would mean more money for the town.

“We are planning feasibility study on whether the town hall could be rebuilt but your not going to get it built in the next couple of years.”
