Video: Student captures stormy pool meeting

A STUDENT has posted a video on YouTube of last week's stormy meeting over the closure of Holywell Mead swimming pool.

The film was put on the video sharing website this week, and captured scenes from the meeting as angry residents protested about the closure of the outdoor pool on The Rye in High Wycombe. Counci leaders were present at the meeting and defended the decision to shut the 52-year-old pool to save money. At one stage, council leader Lesley Clarke was seen walking off the stage as the meeting heated up. A member of the audience had previously challenged her assertion that a group of residents' plan to keep the pool open was “sadly wanting”. The man said the council’s plan was also wanting.

The film by an Amersham & Wycombe College student captures the tense atmosphere at the meeting, at the Environment Centre by the pool, on Tuesday last week.

Deputy council leader Tony Green this week told the Bucks Free Press that the pool would not re-open under options for the future of the site to go out to public consultation “fairly soon”.

It could be filled in, he said, but declined to be drawn on specific proposals. The council closed the pool, which opened in the summer only, in February to save £66,000 a year.

Cllr Green said: “They are looking at various innovative uses. I will be very much aimed at young people.”

He added: “We want something that can be used all year round.”

Well, I am not often stuck for words but this is unbelievable.
Councillor Green - how DARE you say you are responsible to the tax payers ? Well the tax payers want their pool back.

Councillor Clarke - what a coward. Yes you are right, you would never have made an MP , but please do not blame the fact that you are a woman on it. Blame it on the fact that like most bullies, you back off when confronted.
Shame on the pair of you and please stop bullsh***ing about the pool being a leisure facility for all again.
Two other organisations said how they made their pools viable again. You ignored them.
The protesters gave their plans to you.
You ignored them too.
SO come on, we know what you have done. You have sold the family silver and pretty soon we will be seeing plans from a leisure facility to develop that site.
You have gone too far and this may have just lost you the council.

Tory councillors - grow some and sort this arrogant pair out.
THIS is a democracy - we voted you in and we the electorate expect to be supported.

Lib dems stop making snide remarks about the tory councillors and show that you really are a party in opposition. So far you have convinced few people. This is indisputable because if it were not the case, then there would be more lib dems in the council.

Labour.... oh never mind, waste of time talking to you lot lol.

That Clarke woman is even uglier than I imagined?
No wonder she has got it in for everyone - probably gets her back up every time she looks in the mirror....

Some might think that the new "options" for the pool might include develpment by someone with "friends in high places".

Please remember this when the "options" are disclosed, and again when companies are employed to carry out the work/running of such facilities.

I hope it is not another case where something is outsourced to a company set up by a former employee.

I understand that a silver-framed photo of yourself does wonders for new 'leisure facilities'.

Symbolic of 30 pieces of silver in old money.

Instead of rejecting the pool supporters' proposal outright, a decent acting council would try to find ways to make it work - using the resources of the council to help the residents make a positive change.
.
WDC has really lost the plot.
.

I also wonder what Cllr Green is on about - one minute he is talking about "They are looking at..." and apparently in the next breath he says "We are...".
.
Well - what is it? They or We?
.
Are the councillors in charge or is someone else in charge?
