A 'NEW Woolworths' formed by ex-employees of the former High Street shop is to open in Amersham today.
Alworths will welcome its first customers after a grand opening ceremony at 10am.
The new company was created by Andy Latham, who worked for Woolworths for 25 years – and other former Woolies staff have been offered jobs at the new store, including Richard Blundel as manager.
Mr Latham will be at the Sycamore Road shop for the opening and will be cutting the ribbon along with 11-year-old Nicole Walker from Chesham.
She won a competition after completing the sentence “I would like to open the alworths store in Amersham because…”. Her winning entry will be on display at the store today. She will also win a Nintendo DS with games and a year’s supply of pic ‘n’ mix.
Alworths will stock many products that will be familiar to Woolworths customers such as toys, sweets, homeware, stationery, seasonal and garden products.
The store has employed over 20 members of staff to date, which is expected to rise to over 40 in the run up to Christmas.
