Wycombe MP joins campaign to tighten arms controls

WYCOMBE MP Paul Goodman joined members of the public to add his support to the international arms control campaign led by the Amnesty and Oxfam organisations.

Campaigners were in Church Street last Saturday seeking signatures for the Million Faces petition which aims to collect a million people worldwide in favour of tighter governmental arms controls.

Mr Goodman, who added his signature to a growing list, said: "There is always a case for re-examining your procedures regulating selling arms.

"If you expect that we have to be fit for war, you can't say it's wrong for companies to make arms. But the foreign office, I always feel, tries to tighten controls over arms."

Photos and self-portraits accompanied by personal messages will be used as the back bone of a campaign to persuade governments to sign up to a global arms treaty.

Sarah Carrington, of Amnesty International UK, added: "The aim is to become the world's biggest popular movement against the misuse of arms.

"Members of the public can join Mr Goodman in showing their support by having their photographs taken. These photos will then be passed on to Amnesty International UK."
