A NEW book aimed at helping kids to cook was launched by an Amersham mum this morning.
'My Tummy Yummies' had its official unveiling at Cafe Africa in the town today, with parents queuing up to get a copy.
It was the idea of mum-of-three Carolin Sommer, who has been working on the book since February.
The 37-year-old said: “I am hoping to inspire young people to take on a love of cooking. The idea is to inspire a love of cooking and to have fun in the kitchen.
“We are losing a life skill. Children need to learn how to cook so they don't rely on ready meals when they are older.
“I've sold quite a few already. It seems to have been really well received so I'm very pleased.”
Mrs Sommer asked parents and pupils at Chesham High School and the Amersham School for recipe ideas – with youngsters providing illustrations for the book.
She said: “I had a great team around me, I couldn't have done it on my own. It's been a real community project.”
Asked if a follow-up is planned, she said: “I have a few ideas.”
All proceeds from the sale of 'My Tummy Yummies' will go to Aylesbury-based charity the PACE Centre, which provides care for disabled children.
Mrs Sommer said: “They have a big focus on children becoming independent. Cooking is a big part of that, so it was a perfect match.”
The book is available to buy online and from the Waterstone's stores in Amersham and Chesham.
