Wycombe singing teacher to hit Broadway stage

A HIGH Wycombe singing teacher is set to embark on the tour of a lifetime as she gets set to tread the boards on Broadway.

Emma-Kate Nelson, known as Kate Nelson via her acting name, is currently playing Princess Adelaide in The Enchanted Pig at the world famous Royal Opera House in London.

But while most of us are busy wrapping Christmas presents, the 28-year-old daughter of Wycombe Abbey house mistress Susan Jenkins is getting her bags packed as she prepares to jet out to New York in the New Year, as the show takes to the New Victory Theatre on 42nd Street.

She said: “The show is going really well, we've had great reviews, we've got a small run here, we go to Broadway and then come back to the UK for a mini tour of the country.

“Going to Broadway is a big step for me, I think it will be a great experience and it's something I've always dreamed about to make it to Broadway.

“It's very hard to get there and then make it there and I feel very privileged to have been given this opportunity to play the oldest theatre on Broadway.”

The High Wycombe resident, who got her big break on Andrew Lloyd Webber's Aspects of Love and Starlight Express, has been teaching at Wycombe Stagecoach theatre school and is keen to launch her own theatre school in the future.

She said: “I love acting and I love teaching, I learn so much through my job, I get to go on stage, experience it all and work with some very knowledgeable and great people.

“I'm keen to do something along the theatre school lines and pass down my experiences to young people in the future to show them there is so more to theatre and performing then just reality shows like the X Factor.”

The Enchanted Pig plays the Royal Opera House until January 2. The company tour Bury St Edmunds, Huddersfield, Manchester and Oxford on their return from the US in the New Year.
