AN Air Ambulance was called to Hazlemere Golf Club yesterday after a person was hurt while sledging.

A helicopter from a neighbouring service had to be called out shortly after 3pm as crews from the Thames Valley and Chiltern Air Ambulance were too busy.

A person is believed to have been hurt on a section of the golf course usually used for sledging.

Rachael Hunter of Thames Valley and Chiltern Air Ambulance said crews were called out seven times on Saturday, mainly to help people with broken bones and to assist at the scene of road accidents.

She said: “They were out almost back-to-back on Saturday. They were out all over the weekend.

“The whole of the South Central Ambulance Service has been really stretched. So many people have been falling over or slipping on the ice. It's been very busy.”

She added the air ambulance had been able to take off despite the freezing weather. A lack of visibility is the only thing that will prevent the helicopter from flying.

“It's clear enough for the helicopter to fly at the moment,” she said. “If it can get off, it will.”
