STAFF at the south Bucks branch of the RSPCA fear a three-legged cat who escaped while being re-homed could die in the cold weather.
New owners came to collect the animal from a rescue centre in Carver Hill Road, High Wycombe, last week – but it got out of its carrier basket and ran away.
The cat, which was named Pusspuss by staff, had to have its rear leg amputated after its tibia was broken. Staff said it looked like someone had got hold of it and swung it round.
Volunteer Joan Johnson said: “A new owner came to collect it and picked it up. Before they could get to the car it panicked and pushed open the door to the carrier and got out.
“With the snow, if it stays out I think it could die.
“They came and collected it at 6.30pm and were out searching until 9.30pm – they almost got frostbite looking. They spotted it twice but couldn't catch it.
“We are all pretty upset about this. It's had a particularly horrid time, and now this.”
Pusspuss, who is completely covered in black fur, is aged either four or five and has been microchipped.
Anyone who has seen her can contact Mrs Johnson on 01494 527118.
No photo of Pusspuss is available.
