A NEW gym has opened in Loudwater and replaces The Fitness Studio, which closed down suddenly last month.
The Oaks Health and Fitness Club, on Treadaway Hill, is a completely new business and owner Chris Summers has done a complete refurbishment inside.
The 47-year-old said: “We had an excellent first weekend with 80 or 90 people coming along to see what we've done to the place.
“I've thrown out ten of the old machines and done a complete redesign inside.
Many members of the The Fitness Studio were left angry when the old gym closed and they lost hundreds of pounds in membership fees.
Mr Summers was one of the members that lost money and said he is determined to run his business differently.
He said: “There's no joining fee and and we don't work with direct debits or finance companies. Members will pay through standing order so they are always in control of their fees.
“It's our job to make people want to come to the gym, not to force them to stay as members. I believe that's the right way to do things and we'll still be here in five years time.”
There is a new weights room at The Oaks Health and Fitness Club and classes which are free to members.
