Update: Major delays after M40 motorbike accident

MAJOR delays have hit the M40 this evening after an accident involving a motorbike.

Police said a man came off a black Honda motorbike at around 6.35pm but was not seriously injured. An ambulance took the rider to John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford.

At 8.30pm there was queueing traffic and a rolling road block on the northbound carriageway between J2 Beaconsfield and J3 Loudwater.

The road block was put in place to implement a lane four of four closure. Some emergency resurfacing was needed.

The reason the motorcyclist crashed was because of the road surface, which had fallen disintegrated over alarge area - this was the reason for the repair work, not the impact of the bike. He was very lucky not to get run over when he came off at 80mph.
