St Teresa's School pupils looking forward to zebra crossing to help them to school

AFTER two years of campaigning and fundraising a zebra crossing is going to be installed in the busy Aylesbury Road in Princes Risborough.

The section of the A4010 which runs alongside St Teresa's Catholic School up from Duke Street roundabout will have a zebra crossing put across it.

It is part of the school travel plan for St Teresa's to make it easier for children to walk to school with their parents.

Co-ordinator for the travel plan Liz Jeffries said: “I have been doing it for two years. Most schools have to have in place a school travel plan encouraging parents to park and then walk.

“The school is on a very busy roundabout so we needed to install a zebra crossing but we had to fund the money.”

Last week the North West Chilterns Local Area Forum donated the last £12,500 needed to reach the £30,000 target.

Mrs Jeffries, of Court Road, Princes Risborough said: “Up until three weeks ago Bucks County Council told us it was £20,000 but then we were told it was £30,000.

“Up until a month ago we had raised £8,000. We have done amazingly well.”

Tesco donated £5,000, Princes Risborough Town Council donated £1,000 and county councillor Carl Etholen donated £1250 from his community fund. Businesses in the area also made donations.

Mrs Jeffries, who has two children at St Teresa's school, added: “The most important thing is it is not a school crossing- it is a community crossing. Where the crossing will go there is a community playground and new equipment.”

The crossing will be put in place in the Autumn.
