Planning row in Wooburn Green after man 'concussed' by conker

PLANS for a new care home should be blocked because its entrance would pass underneath a 'dangerous' horse chestnut tree - said a woman whose husband was 'concussed' by a large conker.

A local developer wants to demolish a bungalow and build a 116-bed residential care home on land off Clapton Approach in Wooburn Green.

Entrepreneur Emmelina Hoyles, lives on Clapton Approach, and warned against having a staff car park near the tree.

She told Wycombe District Council the tree “deposits very large prickly cases and large conkers right through September and October”.

The 42-year-old added: “My husband was hit by one and was concussed. We no longer go anywhere near it during these two months, it is too dangerous.”

Developer Richard Potyka dismissed the concerns and said: “Next they'll have bricks falling out the tree”.

He said staff will have to pass under the tree but said parking spaces are not underneath it.

He added: “I can't believe people are moaning about the plans – the site's going to be absolutely blinding.

“This is something for the community and surely they would rather this than have social housing down here.”

Mrs Hoyles has a number of other objections and last month a group of residents said the care home could pose a serious flood risk, which Mr Potyka contested (see link below).

Mr Potyka, who owns R A P Building and Developments, said the care home would create around 60 new jobs.

Those conkers are vicious little beasts - picking on innocent bystanders.
.
If we cut down all the trees there would be no dangerous conkers around to hurt anybody.
.
Or everyone could be forced to take out insurance against being attacked by a conker.
.
That would make more sense.

Has anyone put an ASBO on this tree?
I mean if innocent passers by can't go about their business without being attacked by the local flora, well it is appalling!

I think the victim of this tree rage and his family should get counselling and a large apology from said tree.

he was probably collecting conkers!
.
Personally I have a problem with acorns, they are nasty beasts that fall with the speed of an exocet missile. Then there is the danger of the seed pods (helicopters) from sycamore trees, they spiral down at you and seem to have some form of heatseeking device attached to them. Getting hit by one of them is likely to floor you and leave you with serious injuries.... Let's just cut down all trees as they are far too dangerous for innocent law abiding people. Who cares about their beauty and the benefits to the air quality?

Sorry but this has got to be wind up or an early April fools joke, but definitly a joke. If that actually happened, it was a million to one chance of it actually happening. I bet you could stand under a chestnut tree for a few seasons until this sort of thing nearly happening. No, pull the other leg.

'Entrepreneur Emmelina Hoyles' smacks of being a NIMBY if you read between the lines...............
...
'Her husband was concussed by a low flying conker'.
To be fair, before we pass any more comments about this poor lady we must have medical evidence.

I've been in touch with 'Mythbusters' on TV to see if they could conduct an experiment to find out if a falling conker could cause concussion if it came in contact with a human head.
Waiting for their reply.

A tree that drops its fruit... Who knew. Does Government and European Directors know of the danger of these trees? Questions must be asked...

Meanwhile back on earth, Scientists have passed off the incident of concusion by alluding to the couples state of mind whilst making the statement.

Elsewhere - the story of a holly bush that pricked its new owner...

HAHAHAHAHA!

Not a born and bred bucks onion then...this is how we deal with wayward conkers...peel them out of their prickly defences...pierce a hole through their bellys and insert string through hole then knot on one end. Swing conkers at each other until one or both are smashed to pieces...it is must therapeutic...you should try it Mrs Emma Hoyles, it may help you combat your fear of the dreaded conker. =))
