High Wycombe shoppers told how to avoid burglary scams

ELDERLY shoppers in High Wycombe were offered advice on how to stop bogus callers preying on them at an Action Against Burglary road show.

Age Concern Bucks organised the event at the Chiltern Centre on Saturday to highlight the problem of distraction burglaries and other scams.

Angela Hart, of Age Concern Bucks, dressed up as a would-be burglar for the event and offered advice along with colleague Sandie Doubtfire and volunteer Sally Woodbridge.

Shoppers were told never to let anyone you don't know into your home, to avoid random callers and never be afraid to ask for identification. Also, if you haven't already got a door chain, it's a good idea to consider getting one fitted.

The next road show will be held in the Eden Shopping Centre on Saturday, March 27. It will be an opportunity to view the Action Against Burglary DVD - 'Not Sure? Don't open the door!' and to receive advice as well as a goody bag on how to avoid becoming a victim of these crimes.

Neighbourhood Watch, Wycombe District Council Community Safety Team, Thames Valley Police and Trading Standards also supported the event.
