MORE than £6,000 was raised for charity when 160 people attended a gala dinner and auction at The Bellhouse Hotel in Beaconsfield.

Former Tomorrow's World television presenter Maggie Philbin was a special guest speaker, while double paralympian Sophie Christiansen, who has won two medals in dressage events, drew raffle tickets on the evening.

The event was jointly organised by Fulmer-based South Bucks Riding for the Disabled Association (RDA) and the Rotary Club of Gerrards Cross & Chalfont St Peter.

One of South Bucks RDA horses, Rotarian, was the first horse to be enrolled as a member of a rotary club and though he couldn't attend the dinner there was a life-size cardboard cut-out of him on display.

The money raised will be shared between the disabled riding charity and Rotary International’s End Polio Now campaign.
