Premier Inn announces plan for High Wycombe hotel

BUDGET hotel chain Premier Inn has unveiled early plans for a new 120-bed hotel in High Wycombe.

The hotel would be built on the land opposite the Dovecot multi-storey car park in the Archway road and would create about 50 jobs.

A public exhibition on the proposed hotel, which would also include a restaurant and bar, will be held at Hamilton Primary School next Thursday.

Hotel bosses will then decide on whether to submit a planning application to Wycombe District Council.

The news follows hot on the heels of Travelodge announcing plans to move into the town above the Pure nightclub.

A hotel is also planned for the Chilterns Shopping Centre in Frogmoor.

Richard Pearson from Premier Inn said: “We are delighted to announce proposals for a new hotel, which will help to regenerate this site, provide local jobs and bring much needed hotel accommodation to boost local tourism.”

The exhibition will be held at the school's Hampden Road site in Hampden Road, High Wycombe, between 4.30pm and 8.30pm on Thursday, March 25.

Contact the hotel firm on 0800 019 5876 for more information.

How many hotels does Wycombe need? There is going to be one above the nightclub and now one towards Temple End. Is there really that much going on in Wycombe.

WHY do we need all these hotels??????????????
?????????

Premier @ Dovecote
Travel lodge @ Chilterns
Hotel @ this wonderful Coachway Station

Hotel already at Handy Cross

Isn't this a bit over the top????????

Or are they needed for the visitors visiting the wonderful Eden, which is in the top 50 list of shopping centres.

Yes it is, obviously he can't find work so he has to do this ridiculous advert.

Well its their money they are wasting, and I would hate to suggest that they might have done a study or 2 themselves to see if the demand was there - and unlike the council, they probably wouldn't go ahead if they didn't think it was!

you need all these hotels because 1. people can't get out of town because of the snow 2. people can't get out of town because of the traffic jams - they should be real money spinners

Not exactly sure what people are whinging about if its creating 50 more jobs. Oh I forgot some people don't actually know what there on about. Infact there the same ones that probably protested at the old bus station which they thought was the 8th wonder of the world and what a god awful bus stations the new eden one is.

The new bus station is nice, but in the wrong place.

to far to walk especially in the wind and rain, carrying shopping etc, not at all good for the elderley and infirm either.

50 jobs is hardly going to make a difference in the unemployment figures.

Point taken on the location of the bus stop that the walk from Tesco could be to far for some.

However when we say only 50 jobs made but surely this is far better than 50 jobs lost. As soon as a place in the High Street shuts down losing 5 jobs there is an uproar on this site.

If we take a look around at the commercial businesses in the town centre with the exception of the supermarkets, how many actually employee anywhere near 50 people.

I for one are in favour of a business locating in the town centre that can offer jobs especially to people who willing to work.

Yes you have a point there to, i was looking at the figure of thousands of unemployed, minus 50, but yes i agree, i suppose anyone and anything who can supply jobs in the town these days must be good.

Creating 50 more jobs?! Don't make me laugh, more like people will be losing their jobs! What about the local hotels around the area that will be closing down because of the extra 360 odd rooms from all the new hotels!!
We do not need these extra rooms in the town!

I'm afraid thats competition. If your frightened of competition don't start your own business, its that simple. Businesses need to adapt in a changing world, there is no room for stagnation.

None of the local hotels can beat that it's ridiculous. It's not like we are sitting here doing nothing to compete!

Local hotels need to capture a market a £19 - £29 budget hotel can't afford. Maybe its the customer service, decor, atmosphere a very good restaurant which not only intices people to stay but to come just for a meal. I have travelled and spent many nights in different hotels but its the ones that make a difference are the ones that you remember to book again and tell of your experiences. Once a hotel has a good reputation whether big or small you will often find their not the ones giving away bargain room rates as there already drawing in the custom as their reputation proceeds them.

With one or 2 exceptions for places that I know, I'll pay more to stay in a chain hotel simply because I know what I'm going to get.

Typically, Sun to Thurs it's people who work for small companies, or firms on a budget (e.g. start-ups) who need people to stay over but can't afford, or don't want to waste, money on 5 star hotels. On Fri-Sun it's 'leisure' so stag and hen nights, wedding parties etc.
